Custom Scripts: How to add a customer support widget

If your organization already uses a customer service software solution, like Zendesk, Help Scout, or Freshdesk to name a few, why not embed their chat widget into your patron portal to provide direct support to patrons from your on demand platform.  It's a great way to offer immediate support to patrons with questions or troubleshooting needs.  We have some step by step instructions for integrating this below.  If you have any difficulty please reach out and we'll be happy to assist!


  1. Collect the installation code from your customer service solution that is used to embed a chat widget.   It will look like the following: 

  2. In a text editing software, delete the <script> </script> tags.  In the sample above there are two sets, so be sure to remove them all.  Then save your document as a .js file.

  3. Navigate to SITE SETTINGS > PORTAL BRANDING > CUSTOM CSS > scroll down to the Manage Assets section and click the red Upload New Asset button.   Choose your .js document and upload it.

  4. With your .js file now uploaded, click on the vertical ellipsis at the end of your file's listing and copy the URL.

  5. Navigate to SITE SETTINGS > PORTAL SETTINGS > and scroll down to the Custom Scripts section.   Put your cursor into the field and paste, then hit tab, then save.

    6.  You're in business!  Your help widget should now be visible in the lower right hand side of your on demand web portal.
