Videos: Configuring Options

The sub-menus of the VIDEOS asset area allow you to add details and supplemental assets, configure access settings, and customize the landing page of your video.  Click on a video title from your list to view the sub-menus, beginning with the Asset sub-menu.

Asset:

The Asset sub-menu shows you the publishing status and the access settings (ie. who and when) for the primary video.   If the video has been uploaded you will see a thumbnail image of the film with a play button to preview the video.  Otherwise you will see the option to upload the video directly or to copy the Video Request Page link in order to send it to your content provider so they can upload the video for you.

To the right of the video preview box you'll see some important information and options:

  • Published:  If unchecked and greyed out, this means the video has not yet been uploaded.  If unchecked but not greyed out, this means the video is uploaded but not yet published (meaning the 'play' button online is not active).  If checked and green, then the video is playable online to those with the appropriate access.
  • Video ID:  The unique id of the primary asset.
  • Status:   "Requested" means it has not yet been uploaded.  "Uploaded" means it has been uploaded but hasn't yet begun the encoding process.  "Queued" or "Transcoding" means it is currently being converted.  "Unpublished" means it has been successfully uploaded and encoded, but the 'play' button is not active yet.   "Published" means it is now playable online.  "Error" will include the reason the file could not successfully complete the encoding process.
  • Source File:  The name of the original file that was uploaded.  Includes an info icon that can be clicked for more detail.
  • Created:  The date the asset was created.  This would be the date you added the title to your Videos area, not the date when the video was uploaded.
  • Ratings:  This will show the average rating for the video as long as you have ratings enabled (Site Settings > Customization) and patrons have begun using the ratings online.

To the far right of the Published status, there are some icons that show their function when you hover over them.   The play icon allows you to preview the video with it's insertions (added under the Additional Assets sub-menu). The ticket icon allows you to issue vouchers to this video; The circular arrow icon allows you to reset this video asset removing the source video so that you can upload a new source video to this location; the double pages icon allows you to duplicate this video asset for situations like needing a separate copy that has its own access settings for press or industry, for example;  the trash can icon deletes this asset title from your list of video titles.

At the bottom of the Assets sub-menu you will find the Asset Access section and the Automatic Publishing Actions section.  The Access and Schedules screen allows you to set limits to who and when someone can view the asset online.

  • Asset Access: Who can watch your primary asset?  You can set to be only accessible with a voucher (aka ticket), and/or accessible by subscribers (aka passholders), or accessible to specific subscribers rather than all subscribers. 

  • Automatic Publishing Actions: do you want your asset only available to users for a certain date range, such as a 24-hour window, or a week? Here is where you enter the start date/time and end date/time for availability.  If you need the video to end its availability after a certain view count, you can enable that option and fill in the number of views allowed until the video will automatically unpublish


Metadata:

This is the basic information about the video, including director, producer, year, country of origin, synopsis, and so on. You can enter this or have the content provider enter it via the Video Request Page.  Please note the Logline field and the Short Summary field support HTML.

Below the default metadata fields you can add your own  Custom Fields.  Is there other information about the video you would like to record, or display?  This can be for internal purposes or displayed as part of the metadata online.  A common example is premiere status - creating a field to record the type of premiere this video has at your event.  The content provider can even fill these details in for you on the Video Request Page if you like.   For more information on how to add a custom field please see the Customizing The Video Request Page article.

 At the bottom of this screen you will find some custom data fields that are internal only and will not be shown in the Patron Portal.   These might be used for notes or as fields used in a special way through the API in connection with your ticketing solution.  The custom data fields appear as columns in many of the Reports as well, and can be used to sort by or refine your reports.



Artwork:

The Artwork sub-menu is where you add available images for your primary video. Your options are: 

Regular Thumbnail for the standard image that will appear on the subscriber's (passholders) portal.  This image will also be used for the Featured and Background images if nothing else is uploaded.  Recommended specs 1920w x 1080h pixels, file size 500k or less.

Featured Image (optional) for the image that represents the title in the "Featured Category" (aka "Hero carousel") on the browse page of your Patron Portal.  Same recommended specs as above.

Background Image (optional) which appears as the backdrop of the video’s landing page.  Same recommended specs as above.

  • Poster Image (optional) can be set to for use in Categories, or as the image used for a patron's watch later selections. Recommended specs 600w x 900h pixels, file size 500k or less.

 Additional Assets: 

The Additional Assets screen is where you can add related assets for your primary video asset.  These include:

Pre-Roll Insertions: you can have one or more videos play prior to your primary video.  Common examples are a pre-recorded filmmaker introduction; a pre-recorded programmer introduction; a festival trailer; and/or a sponsor advertisement.  Insertions are first uploaded to the INSERTIONS area (left hand navigation option) and then can be added to each video as desired.  You can select the Default insertion if you only want a single, default video as pre-roll, or uncheck the Use Default Preroll Insertion box to select from a list of other insertions you uploaded. Add them here in the order you would like them to play.  Once they have been added, if you want to resort them you can simply drag and drop the insertion titles into the appropriate order.

Trailer:  if you would like to give your patrons the option of watching a trailer of the primary video, you can upload it here.  After successfully uploading, you can preview it if needed and then when ready check the "Published?" field to make it available on the video's online landing page.  The trailer can also be uploaded by the content provider from the Video Request Page.

Bonus Content: content such as a pre-recorded Q&A, outtakes or other special videos. That content can be uploaded here, and will appear on the video's online landing page at the lower left side.  After uploading, click the bonus content title to add its artwork and timed text tracks for the bonus content, if you have them.

Timed Text Tracks: if your primary video comes with separate subtitle or closed caption files, those can be uploaded here in WebVTT, TTML or SRT file formats.  Timed text tracks can also be uploaded by the content provider when uploading the video from the  Video Request Page.

Known issue:  You can set subtitles/captions to be on by default, however be aware Apple devices do not recognize this setting.  Patrons using Apple devices will need to turn the captions on from the player when they are viewing.


Security:

The Security screen allows you to define where the video is available and add watermarks if necessary.

• Geoblocking:  To limit access by location you can enable geoblocking for your primary video by country or by state/province.  For the U.S. you can additionally block by zip code.  Please note, ISP providers aren't required to update location beyond country although it is in the best interest to do so.  Most do, but there can be a lag between when they make changes and when they report those changes, which can result in patrons locations being misreported.   The more granular the geoblocking you enable the more access issues some of your patrons may have.  Geoblocking can be manually disabled on individual vouchers or subscriptions.  

If you would prefer to disallow viewing (rather than allow) then enable the "Use Blocklist?" option, and then your settings will be for which specific countries cannot view the content.

Watermarks:  you may add a watermark overlay on the video playback of the patron's voucher # or for subscribers their session ID number as an added form of video security.  Please contact support to inquire about the use of Forensic watermarks.


Display Options:

On the Display Options sub-menu you can fill-in create  Call To Action Links; add an image as the Title Logo;  upload a Presented By image; and disable the audience Rating option.  

  • Call To Action Links:  Creates buttons on the video's landing page that link to an external URL.  Can be used for many creative purposes, for example reviews or additional information about the video.  Please note call to action links are not supported with the TVapps.
  • Title Logo:  Replace the video's title on the landing page with an image instead. 
  • Presented By image:  appears below the play button on the video's landing page.  Commonly used for sponsor or co-presenter recognition.  Recommended specs 280w pixels with no height restrictions.  Square or horizontal rectangle look best.  There is a URL field below that the partner's URL can be added if you'd like the presented by image to be a link to their website.  Only one URL can be used.  If you have multiple sponsors we recommend uploading one image that contains all of their names or logos without making use of the URL field, or have the URL field link to a page on your own website where your partners are all listed.
  • Rating option:  If you have enable ratings for your assets (from Site Settings > Optional Features) you can disable them on an asset by asset basis here.  Simply disable this setting and the rating option will not appear on this video's landing page.

Live:

With a  Live Stream you can add a broadcast to accompany your primary video. Instead of sending a patron to an outside link, they can watch and even interact with the live stream on the video's online landing page. Common examples are broadcasting live Q & As, panel discussions, or even live performances that are in addition to the primary video.  More information on how to setup a Live Stream here.    If your event is ONLY a live stream, with no primary video, you'll want to set that up in the LIVE EVENTS area instead.

A live stream can be added on this screen to get the RTMP Endpoint and Stream Key required by the solution you are using for the broadcast (ie. zoom, streamyard, OBS).   On this screen you will also set a name for the event, and a date and time. The event name and time will appear on the video's online landing page in the Patron Portal, alerting patrons to when the event occurs so they can plan ahead.

Live Stream can include Audience Interaction where users can ask questions and chat with each other. With Questions enabled, patrons can use a separate form from the chat window to ask their questions, which appear in the Live Stream section in the Admin portal.


Analytics:

The  Analytics screen looks similar to your On Demand Dashboard, however it is giving you an overview for this specific video title.  In addition, the screen shows all the sessions for this video with information on who accessed, what device was being used, where the connection was located, when last accessed and the percentage watched.
